Trade Body VOASA

VOASA 'Together we are stronger'

VOASA, or Vacation Ownership Association of Southern Africa was previously known as the Timeshare Institute of Southern Africa (TISA).

The industry body was established in 1990 as an organization representing the interests of the South African vacation ownership industry, as well as supporting new buyers and owners of vacation ownership products, including; Conventional Timeshare, Points Clubs, Fractional Ownership, Destination and Private Residence Clubs.

Fundamental to the existence of VOASA, is its ability to self regulate and control the industry in such a manner that the national authorities, via the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), is confident of its ongoing ability to manage and deliver a mature and growing industry that instils confidence within all stakeholders and is positively perceived by the consumer at large.

A key contributor to VOASA’s existence is the protection of consumer rights and the stimulation of the ongoing growth within the industry in a positive and organized manner.

Growing an industry

The South Africa boasts an impressive ZAR 2 Billion rand shared vacation ownership industry, with over 200 resorts and 260 000 vacation ownership owners utilizing an impressive 85% occupancy of some 500 000 weeks.

The industry has changed considerably over the past 18 years from its original composition of a broad based number of independent developers, managing agents and broker companies, to an industry where an amalgamation of organisations has taken place.

VOASA continues to play a vital and significant role in educating the industry, press and consumers about the various global market changes that will influence the South African industry. VOASA has an extensive educational program that icludes facilitating industry events such as the annual VOASA conference, internal and external workshop as well as sponsoring and representing the organisation at other key seminars and industry events.

VOASA now represents over 50 organisations within its membership directory with the 8 membership categories to join, each category caters for any company or individual operating with the vacation ownership industry, if your organisation is large or small we welcome you.

VOASA code of conduct

VOASA introduced its Code of Conduct, through negotiations with the Department of trade and industry (Business Practices Committee), in which it outlines the intention to govern business practices within the shared vacation ownership industry by protecting the interest of both consumers and the industry and promoting an equitable, negotiated balance between these interests.

The Code embraces accepted principles in the industry which is self-regulated, however it does not replace rights or obligations a consumer may have by virtue of any agreement, the common law or any statutory act.

Membership in VOASA is vital to your success.

VOASA helps you succeed through its vast array of resources, offerings and membership benefits. VOASA extends memberships to both corporates and individuals operating within the Southern Africa vacation ownership market and these VOASA acredited companies may extend the benefits of membership to their employees.

Your comment. Flexi Club have added a R20 involuntary donation to Christel.House in the Western Cape to my fees for the 2012 year which are due on 1 October 2011. I have sent an e mail to Flexi Club-Accts (memberaccounts@clubleisure.co.za) on 3 September instructing them to delete the R20 donation from my account as I support local charities in Kwa Zulu Natal, and "Please confirm that the involuntary donation will be deleted from my account for the 2012 year, and will not appear on my annual accounts in the future." They have not to date even acknowledged receipt of my e mail. From previous experience they will just ignore it.
