Global Exchange Network

Interval International builds strong presence in South Africa

Interval International, a prominent worldwide provider of vacation services for more than 34 years and an operating segment of Interval Leisure Group, has established itself as the exchange company of choice and a leading provider of business solutions for developers throughout Southern Africa.

With over 2 400+ globally affiliated resorts and 2 Million member families Interval is actively looking to grow their Southern African resort portfolio through creating local affiliations. Here are some of the most recent South African resorts that have joined the global Interval network.

BEACON ISLAND LIFESTYLE RESORT

In 2008, Interval entered into a long-term, exclusive affiliation agreement with Southern Sun, a hospitality group with more than 40 years' history in the region.

Southern Sun's six Lifestyle Resorts, representing one of the largest vacation ownership programmes in South Africa, are now part of Interval's exchange network. In addition, Interval provides Southern Sun with a comprehensive package of customised services, including programme design, software support and back-office points-based reservation services for its exchange club, SunSwop.

ZORGVLIET PRIVATE RESIDENCE CLUB

Interval's next affiliation, signed in 2009, was a long-term, multilocation club agreement with the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club, which comprises five outstanding resorts, sold on both a fractional and traditional timeshare basis.

Zorgvliet properties include Ka'Ingo Private Reserve and Spa and Dinkweng Safari Camp at Ka'Ingo, both of which offer a sophisticated and modern African bush experience; the upscale Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club on the Vaal River; Zorgvliet Vineyard Lodge and Spa, which incorporates an award-winning working vineyard; and Protea King George Hotel, a gem of the Garden Route.

MJEJANE GAME RESERVE

Interval most recently announced the addition of Mjejane Game Reserve to its global exchange network. The property is set alongside a breathtaking 4,000-hectare reserve, the world famous Kruger National Park.

These are significant additions to our network of outstanding resorts," said Darren Ettridge, Interval vice president of resort sales and service for Europe, Middle East and Africa. "We're gratified to be able to support their success with the tools we have developed over the years."

"We've customised a complete package of services for each of these clients, because each represents a different, but important, segment of the South African vacation ownership industry," says David Clifton, Interval's managing director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. "Interval has the resources and expertise to meet developers' needs, however varied they may be."

According to the Vacation Ownership Association of Southern Africa, some 400,000 owners hold weeks or points for timeshares in the country and a recent survey revealed that nearly two-thirds of respondents feel that timesharing has increased the amount of time they spend on holidays.

Interval, which specialises in working with resort developers to create vacation ownership programmes of every configuration, including points-based club products, is uniquely positioned to grow its market share as South African vacation ownership continues to blossom.
